and Election Services documents so they reflect how the
elections are currently being
conducted. Two changes to
highlight:
3 Candidates’ Statements:
The proposed change
would still allow candidates
to send a statement one
time through the Bar’s
email address system; however, all statements would
need to be received by Bar
staff at least seven working
days before the start of the
election. All statements
would be featured in one
document in the order in
which they are received.
The one document would
then be emailed out to the
members/voters in that
district before the election
starts.
3 Election Tellers: The pro-
posed change would elimi-
nate the need for three vol-
unteer lawyers to serve as
Election Tellers to review
the tabulation process and
certify the election results.
Since the move to online
voting, there are no paper
ballots to be scanned and
tabulated in-house. The
online voting vendor pro-
vides the written confirma-
tion of the elections results.
Provisions remain in the
Board Election Rules
should a candidate(s)
contest the election.
3Comments will considered by
the board officers at their
January meeting with the final
proposal before the board for
a vote in January.
3 Appointments Committee—
Bryan Chamber reported:
3Public member Meredith
Peabody’s term will expire in
June 2013. She is eligible and
interested in being reappointed.
Alex Vakula moved and Jim
Smith seconded and the motion
carried unanimously to reap-
point public member Meredith
Peabody to a second but final
three-year term on the Board
of Governors. Her new term
would begin at the conclusion
of the 2013 June Convention.
