Veterans Courts
Dealing with battlefield behavior on
the home front
Arizona criminal courts are creating specialized programs for veterans
who enter the criminal justice system. This seminar will review four
such programs to discuss how they are structured, what criteria are
used to admit veterans into the programs, and what special services
and resolution options the programs offer. Speakers from the Department of Veterans Affairs and other non-governmental organizations
assisting veterans will discuss how they work with the veterans courts
to provide assistance to veterans and their families. Criminal, civil,
and family law practitioners will learn how to spot a client who could
benefit from a veterans court program.

Anatomy of a
Discipline Case
The Role of Our New Lawyer Regulation
System in Serving Justice
Join a panel of experts for an interactive and entertaining exploration
of the typical lawyer discipline case. Learn the “dangerous practice
areas” that put lawyers at greatest risk of a bar charge. What types of
misconduct are most common? Who is getting sanctioned in our new
discipline system, and what do those sanctions look like? The new
system has been in place for two years now: what has changed and
how is it working? Hear from key players such as the Chair of the
Attorney Discipline Probable Cause Committee, our Presiding
Disciplinary Judge and Supreme Court Chief Justice Rebecca Berch –
who issued the order that gave us our new system. This program will
greatly benefit all lawyers, from sole practitioners (who are subject to
greater numbers of bar complaints and sanctions) to lawyers at firms
and public offices big and small.
