Tom Curzon, co-leader of the business practice
for the Phoenix law firm Osborn Maledon, re-
ceived the William F. Mc Whorter Community
Service award, which recognizes an individual
or organization that contributes to Arizona’s
technology industry “through relentless com-
munity involvement, leadership, visibility and
excellence in economic development activity.”
His practice focuses on serving as outside
general counsel to emerging, growth-oriented
companies and on entrepreneurial transactions,
including venture capital and other related areas.
Carolyn J. Johnsen, a partner at Dickinson
Wright PLLC, was selected to serve as Co-Chair
for the Alumnae of Direct Women, a national
organization that works to advance board diversity by increasing the representation of women
on company boards of directors.
At the firm, she focuses her law practice on
business restructurings and creating complex
plans, strategies and structures for multi-million
dollar companies in multiple industries.
Steptoe partner Floyd Bienstock was elected
chairman of the board of the NorthBridge
College Success Program, a non-profit organization that provides support, resources and
guidance to students with learning differences as
they transition to, persist and succeed in their
higher educational and vocational endeavors
following high school.
At the firm, he leads the Insurance Coverage
and Bad Faith Group with a practice focusing on
litigating insurance coverage and bad faith matters, including class actions, as well as complex
commercial litigation matters.
Jamie Mayrose of Gordon & Rees was named
to the board of the Phoenix Theatre.

was selected to join Valley Leadership Institute’s 37th class. A firm associate, he focuses his

Federal-State Jurisdiction of the Judicial Conference of the United States. The 14-member
committee is composed of U.S. circuit judges,
district judges, a bankruptcy judge, a magistrate
judge, and four state supreme court chief justices,
all of whom are appointed by the Chief Justice
of the United States. Chief Justice Bales was appointed for a three-year term beginning October
1, 2015 through October 1, 2018.
The Committee considers issues related to
the structure and jurisdiction of the federal courts
and the allocation of jurisdiction between state
and federal courts, and it makes recommendations to the Judicial Conference, the policy-making body for the federal judiciary.

the Arizona Technology Council’s Startup and
Entrepreneurship Committee presented “It’s a
(VIRTUAL) Jungle Out There! Legal Traps on
the Internet” on October 1 at the Unexpected
Art Gallery in downtown Phoenix. Attendees
